Keira Knightley, suburban slacker. The well-traveled English actress from Anna Karenina, A Dangerous Method, and Atonement is surprisingly convincing as an under-motivated Seattle-area late-bloomer yearning for a change of scenery – even if it’s only a few miles away in the family of single dad Sam Rockwell and his teenage daughter, Chloë Grace Moretz. The three actors mesh superbly in an essentially routine romantic sitcom, proving once again that it’s the singer, not the song. The chemistry prof behind it is director Lynn Shelton (Humpday), working from a screenplay by Andrea Seigel. Together they decorate this bright little ornament with minimal corn and maximum congeniality (100 min.).
