Sebastian Junger’s “sequel” to the stark war documentary Restrepo
drops us once again in a hellish US Army outpost in the title valley in Northeast Afghanistan, where the Taliban come out to play and there’s a firefight (or two) every day. As in the earlier film, we get to know the soldiers personally. Goes a long way to explaining the bond among military warriors, and why politics fades to meaninglessness when the bullets start flying. The thrilling front-line camera work is by director Junger (The Perfect Storm
) and Tim Heatherington (84 min.).
