Know the Best in Bay Area Music? Vote at Thizzler and Submit to Play Mission Creek Oakland

Local blog/promoter Thizzler wants your vote for the best new artists in Bay Area hip-hop and Mission Creek Oakland Music and Arts Festival (MCO) has opened up submissions for bands to play its month-long festival in September. It's a short window for both, so don't miss out.

For the past three years, Thizzler has named its new best-in-class of emerging hip-hop artists. Past Bay Area Freshmen 10 lists have included Iamsu!, Hopie, and Kreayshawn.

Votes are accepted via Twitter and you can vote as many times as you want. Tweet the name to @TheThizzler with the hashtag #BAF10 or go to for an easy template: "Hey @TheThizzler, I nominate (NAME) for the #BAF10 Class of 2013!" The list is narrowed down to thirty top contenders, and the top ten are chosen by a panel that includes representatives from Rasputin Records, 106 KMEL, and Hieroglyphics. Voting ends Monday, April 29 at Midnight.

Meanwhile, the rapidly growing Oakland edition of the San Francisco arts festival Mission Creek is currently accepting submissions from bands of any genre to play the festival in September. Last year, organizers chose thirty new acts to perform out of one hundred that applied.

Don't wait until right before submissions close on Wednesday, May 1 — organizers are reviewing bands on an ongoing basis. Lineups will be announced starting in July. MCO is co-produced by the East Bay Express and at least one night will be curated by our team of music critics. Let us know what bands you want to see.
