.KIPP Bridge School Update – No New Roof Until Summer

We reported Friday that the KIPP Bridge College Prep school in West Oakland started flooding Thursday, and that by Friday conditions were so dire that a number of classrooms were out of commission. (“When It Rains, These Classrooms Pour”.) Oakland Unified School District spokesman Alex Katz said in today’s Chron (headline: “When it rains, it pours inside college-prep middle school“cough, cough!! ) that some leaks have been patched, and that the district plans to slap a new roof on the school over the summer at a cost of half a million dollars. Concerned parents hope the passage of an emergency resolution will enable their kids to study sans water well before then. According to the article, the school district has spent half a billion dollars in the last six years fixing schools around the city. Seems it could find a few bucks to allow the kids at KIPP Bridge, one of the best performing schools in the city, to stay dry.
