King Krule

When: Mon., April 16, 7 p.m. 2018

King Krule is an unusual entry to the mainstream pop landscape this past year. The moniker of 23-year-old English singer-songwriter, rapper, and producer Archy Marshall, King Krule released the genre-defying, weirdo, avant-garde The OOZ last year, capturing the hearts of critics and fans alike. The lines are so blurry; it’s challenging to even pinpoint any specific influences: Jazz, punk, trip-hop, darkwave, and R&B all make appearances, but none stick around for very long. Fans of British music that generally doesn’t fare well in the states (Edwyn Collins, The Libertines, Ian Dury) will recognize a tradition of the tattered outcast in the music of the young Londoner. The OOZ is Marshall’s first release as King Krule since 2013’s 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, which made him a cult icon. Now he’s something else entirely.
