Kim Kardashian West Live

When: Tue., June 30, 8 p.m. 2015

Love her or hate her, you have to give Kim Kardashian West some credit for being a forward-thinking businesswoman. While, on one hand, the public can’t seem to get enough of her, she gets under plenty of people’s skin for being famous simply by virtue of being famous. People often scoff at the fact that a sex tape jump-started the LA socialite’s career in the late 2000s, but from another perspective, it’s somewhat genius that Kardashian was able to capitalize on what could have been her downfall. She turned her fifteen minutes of fame into a veritable entertainment and retail empire, which now includes a reality show in its tenth season, a best-selling iPhone app, a boutique chain, and two books. There’s plenty of discomfort surrounding women who take charge of their sexuality — and use it for profit on such a massive scale — which is why Kardashian’s very existence is an affront to the patriarchy. At Castro Theatre (429 Castro St., San Francisco) on June 30, Kardashian will discuss her new selfie book Selfish, and hopefully reveal all her secrets.

Update: This event will now take place at Castro Theatre in San Francisco, not Paramount Theatre in Oakland as previously stated.
