Khruangbin

When: Tue., May 1, 8 p.m. and Wed., May 2, 8 p.m. 2018

Let’s get the obvious question out of the way first: It’s pronounced “Crew-ang-bin” and it means airplane in Thai. Describing their sound is a little more complicated. The trio plays an unhurried brand of instrumental funk, classic soul, and dreamy psychedelia shot with international influences. Their second album, Con Todo El Mundo, released earlier this year, is gorgeously recorded — the minimal overdubs and pristine, natural reverb highlight the exquisite interplay between Speer and Lee. From the snaky leads on “Lady and Man” to the sun-soaked hymn “Cómo Te Quiero,” it’s laid-back music of the highest caliber. Their shows at The Fillmore sold out, but the real treat is bound to be their intimate gig at Gundlach Bundschu Winery’s historic red barn in Sonoma.
