Kate Nash

When: Tue., May 13, 8 p.m. 2008

Nowadays, MySpace has become the online equivalent of Schwab's Drug Store for aspiring musical talent. Look no further than piano-playing singer-songwriter Kate Nash. After uploading material to her profile, the Irish native received an outpouring of Internet-driven support that eventually led to a friendship with fellow MySpace success story Lily Allen. Nash's debut Made of Bricks was rush-released in the UK and, not unlike Allen, has a very pointed and streetwise approach to tales of broken relationships wrapped in a thin veneer of samples. Whether it's a loutish beau being taken to task (the electro-poppy "Foundations") or a hint of vulnerability being shown (the uber-ballad "Birds"), there's plenty of attitude and passion ingrained in these pop ditties. Backed by a tight, four-piece band, Nash will bring the sass to the Fillmore (1805 Geary Blvd., San Francisco) on Tuesday, May 13. 8 p.m., $22.50.
