Queen Latifah's warmth has boosted middling movies like Beauty Shop and Last Holiday, but she and costar Common can't strike enough sparks to ignite this weak romantic comedy. She's a physical therapist and lifelong basketball fan; he's a rising star for the New Jersey Nets who falls hard for her friend (Paula Patton), a gold digger hellbent on becoming an NBA wife. When he's sidelined by a career-threatening injury, Latifah risks heartbreak to help him heal. Director Sanaa Hamri (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2) oddly chooses to angle several shots so that Common is dwarfed by the real-life NBA stars, though he's more convincing on the court than in his love scenes with Latifah (111 min.).
