Jussie Smollett plays one of the most important characters on the TV show Empire. He portrays Jamal Lyon, the son of Cookie and Lucious Lyon (played by Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard, respectively.) While the TV show keeps fans at the edge of their seats every week, it also offers a heavy dose of the sultry vocals possessed by Smollett. He has been hustling not only as an actor but in the music business as well. Smollett is hitting the road to promote his debut album, Sum of My Music. Even though Smollett was involved as a writer in the Empire soundtrack, Sum of My Music is a reflection of the music he has been creating since before he became an actor. Smollett also uses his music platform to bring awareness to the current hostile political climate brought by the current administration. The track “F.U.W.” (F***ed Up World) takes a hard stance against racial prejudice and the fight for human, religious, and LGBTQ rights.
