Rated PG-13 88 minutes 2008

Jumper feels a lot like a comic-book movie, even though it’s based on a novel. Characters teleport, or “jump,” all over the world, using their genetic gift to tour historic sites, rob banks, and even fly. But jumping has its consequences, as David Rice (Hayden Christianson) soon finds out; religious zealots called Paladins, led by Samuel L. Jackson, have been hunting his unholy kind for hundreds of years, and they’re finally on to his hijinks. Director Doug Liman’s action moves at a frenetic pace, and the spectacle of what being able to teleport could actually accomplish is visually stunning, but, at barely 90 minutes long, the abbreviated story begs for more depth and character development (92 min.).
