All Ages, Rock & Pop

When: Wed., Sept. 24, 7 p.m. 2008

Testosterone-fueled but with a sensitive side, Journey has long represented the rock 'n' roll dream for all comers. Boys get into tunes like "Any Way You Want It," which hand-delivers fantasy girls to the bedroom door, ready and willing essentially to do anything you want --because "that's the way you need it." Girls, on the other hand, swoon to the bittersweet power ballads ("Faithfully," "Lights"). Of course, in the storied tradition of arena-rock chivalry, wherever girls pass out or grow teary-eyed from recent heartbreak, guys will line up by the dozens, with an extra beer to ease the pain and broad shoulders to cry on. This is rock 'n' roll romance at its finest. And even if you're well into middle age by now, like the song says, don't stop believing; it can still happen for you. Journey appears on Wednesday, Sept. 24, with Heart and Cheap Trick, at Sleep Train Pavilion (2000 Kirker Pass Rd., Concord). 7 p.m., $29.50-$125.
