Theater producer/director Rowan Joseph and playwright Bradley Rand Smith made this powerful, no-frills video of the stage adaptation of Dalton Trumbos classic anti-war novel. Its an interior monologue by a WWI American soldier (actor Ben McKenzie from The O.C.) lying in a hospital, slowly coming to the realization that hes lost not only all four of his limbs, but also his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. Joseph, Smith, and McKenzie wisely let Trumbos folksy, anguished, stream-of-consciousness prose do most of the heavy lifting, but there are a few apt staging touches. Compares favorably to the 1971 film version with Timothy Bottoms (77 min.).
