John Legend

When: Sun., Sept. 6, 7:30 p.m. 2009

Not unlike good friend and mentor Kanye West, John Legend has become quite the mini-mogul -- singer, songwriter, producer and label owner. Creative collaborations have become a mainstay for Legend, whether it's been participating in a Will.I.Am-produced video for Barack Obama last year or working with artists ranging from rappers Rick Ross and T.I. to bossa nova legend Sergio Mendes. The Ohio native has brought this musical edict on to the touring trail when it comes to the opening acts he's invited out on the road with him. And while the balladeer's own latest effort Evolver featured some intriguing but nonetheless safe tinkering, on this string of recent dates he's managed to erase some of that album's more awkward moments in his on-stage duets with India.Arie on "Good Morning" and younger brother Vaughn Anthony on "In Your Shoes." John Legend will be showcasing his own brand of Quiet Storm on Sunday, Sept. 6, at The Greek Theatre (Gayley Rd. at Hearst Ave. UC Berkeley). 7:30 p.m., $39.50-$89.50. ApeConcerts.com
