English DJ and record producer John Digweed towers over the last twenty years of dance music. In 1994, Digweed and Sasha (another UK DJ) compiled the first commercially released collection of DJ mixes for the Renaissance brand, taking an indelible step toward solidifying the perception of mixing as an art form. Shortly thereafter, Digweed founded the influential label and production unit Bedrock, the moniker credited with the track “For What You Dream Of,” a runaway house hit featured on the soundtrack to the 1996 film Trainspotting. A champion of impeccably produced progressive house, a more self-serious variety of the 1990s’ dominant rave soundtrack, Digweed’s mixes are still dutifully tailored to the dance floor.
