Joe Goode's Traveling Light

When: Wednesdays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Continues through Aug. 1 2010

Inventive dance takes you somewhere you've never been before. In the case of Joe Goode Performance Group's Traveling Light, that place is San Francisco's Old Mint (88 Fifth Street, San Francisco). Opened in 1874, the "Granite Lady" once held a third of America's gold reserves in its warren of vaults, which are rarely open to the public. Wednesdays through Sundays, July 7 through Aug. 1, visitors can explore those haunting chambers and peek in on a unique tableau of contemporary dance and atmospheric theatrical landscaping contained within each. Choreographed by Goode, a member of UC Berkeley's dance faculty, Traveling Light explores themes of wealth and lost fortune, good times and bad ñ integrating the Old Mint into the new economy. Last year's shows sold out, so advance tickets are recommended. A Sunday Salon, including an extra song performed in the vaults, precedes each Sunday performance. 8 p.m., plus 10 p.m. Fri.-Sat.; $29-$44. 415-561-6565 or
