Jessica Rivera

When: Sun., April 3, 3 p.m. 2011

Soprano Jessica Rivera, famed for her work with John Adams and Golijov, returns to Berkeley to present a far-ranging recital that includes a West Coast premiere. Accompanied by Molly Morkoski, the Southern California native performs Schumann's touching song cycle Fraulenliebe und Leben and Debussy's wonderful Ariettes oubliées. Then comes the West Coast premiere of a joint Cal Performances/Carnegie Hall 9/11 tenth anniversary commemorative commission, Mark Grey's Atash Sorushan (Fire Angels), with accompaniment by Ensemble Meme. The piece, which features a libretto by Bay Area native Niloufar TalebiW and video by Catherine Owens, reflects on the themes of peace and hope in the 21st century. The field is wide open there. At Hertz Hall (near College Ave. and Bancroft Way, UC Berkeley) on Sunday, April 3. 3 pm. $48, with discounts for seniors, community rush, and UC faculty, staff, and students. CalPerfs.berkeley.edu
