Check out the Jerry Brown piece stripped across the top of the front page of today’s San Francisco Chronicle – “Oakland Slayings Define Brown’s Legacy.” The story points out that Brown’s efforts to turn Oakland into “a world-class city” have been marred by the spiraling homicide rate, a vexing problem he has not been able to solve. This is one of the only critical pieces of Brown to appear in the Chron since he took office in 1999. The paper’s coverage of his mayoral administration has generally been favorable.
