In a small Northern German town near the Baltic coast, an army veteran fresh out of options (Benno Fürmann) takes a job as a gofer for a lumpish but shrewd Turkish immigrant (Hilmi Sözer) and his wanton young wife (Nina Hoss), helping them stock their string of snack stands. Almost immediately, the gofer and the boss wife start playing hide-the-döner-kebab and plotting the boss' demise. If that sounds familiar, its because its a remake of James M. Cains The Postman Always Rings Twice in a borderless, amoral 21st-century European setting, adapted and directed by filmmaker Christian Petzold. Cool and elegant, but a light meal of a noir instead of a feast much healthier that way (93 min.).
