Jennifer Hudson & Robin Thicke

When: Sun., May 3, 7:30 p.m. 2009

Jennifer Hudson and Robin Thicke represent the face of a contemporary R&B bill by way of collective television roots. Thicke, the offspring of Gloria Loring and Canadian Growing Pains star Alan Thicke, has turned into quite the blue-eyed soul balladeer, while American Idol runner-up Hudson has used her larger-than-life pipes to improbably win an Oscar and get her solo career off to a promising start. Early reports have Thicke using his falsetto to try and hammer kinks out of his live show while his Chicago-born counterpart has been fleshing out her meager catalog by trotting out covers of En Vogue, Whitney Houston, and Chaka Khan. The duo's R&B express will be pulling in on Sunday, May 3, at the Paramount Theatre (2025 Broadway, Oakland). 7:30 p.m., $49.50-$75.
