Jay Farrar

When: Wed., Feb. 27, 8 p.m. 2008

You'd think that after getting Son Volt back off the ground in 2005 following a six-year hiatus, Jay Farrar would be content fleshing out his band's sound with horns and the keyboards of newest member Derry deBorja. And while Farrar did that to great effect with last year's The Search, once again ex-Uncle Tupelobandmate Jeff Tweedy overshadowed him via Wilco's critically acclaimed Sky Blue Sky. So look at this solo swing as Farrar knocking some of the rust off before hitting the road again with Son Volt in the spring. There's also the distinct possibility of Farrar revisiting the Gob Iron side-project, as his collaborator, Space Needle/Varnaline mastermind Anders Parker, opens the show. Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the GreatAmericanMusic Hall(859 O'Farrell St., San Francisco). 8 p.m., $20.
