Japanese Cooking Workshop

During the ten years she spent growing her own vegetables and harvesting edible seaweed in an ocean-side village in her native Japan, cooking instructor and former Oliveto cook Ayako Iino learned firsthand how to work with the essential flavorsthat make Japanese cuisine so unique and so difficult to prepare perfectly. At the Oakland Public Library's Piedmont Avenue Branch (160 41st St., Oakland) on Monday, Feb. 25, Iino hosts a workshop on brewing Japanese seasonings, aromas, and stocks -- complete with tips, techniques, and tastes. 6:30 p.m. -- Anneli Rufus
