Jamaican Jerk Cook-Off

If you’re a fan of the smoky, mouth-on-fire flavors of Jamaican jerk, and you think it’s a good idea that kids of all skill and income levels get to play soccer for free, then the sixth annual Jamaican Jerk Cook-Off is the event for you. Held at West Oakland’s Dock at Linden Street (95 Linden St.), this Kingston-style Memorial Day battle royale will feature smoky deliciousness cooked by chefs from such notable East Bay restaurants as Chop Bar, CommonWealth Pub, The Growlers’ Arms, and, of course, The Dock. Competitions in years past have featured creative entries, ranging from jerk paella to whole jerk suckling pig. To help put out the flames, ten craft breweries will be on hand. All proceeds benefit My Yute Soccer, an Oakland-based nonprofit that runs free soccer camps for kids ages 7–12.
