When: Mon., May 30, 1-5 p.m. 2016
If you are a fan of the Jamaican art of smoked-pit cooking known as jerk, and you think it’s cool if kids of all different skill levels and socioeconomic backgrounds can have access to a free soccer camp, this annual competition — hosted at Drake’s Dealership (2335 Broadway, Oakland) this year — is the food event for you. Local restaurants and food businesses competing for the crown include Chop Bar, The Dock at Linden Street, S + S Gastro Grub, Jimmie’s Jerk Chicken, La Marcha, and Mohari Wellness. To help cool the flames, there will also be a “Rum Shack” and a wide selection of wine, cocktails, and craft beer on offer. Proceeds will benefit My Yute Soccer, an Oakland-based nonprofit that runs free soccer camps for kids ages seven to twelve. Advance tickets are available via Eventbrite.com.
