Jack Boulware

When: Wed., Aug. 18, 7 p.m. 2010

Long before the Tonys knew who Billie Joe Armstrong was, the Bay Area was home to a thriving punk scene, where some of the most inventive, explosive, and influential acts large and small got their footing. It's all chronicled in tender, exhaustive, colorful detail by journalists Jack Boulware and Silke Tudor in their book Gimme Something Better: The Profound, Progressive, and Occasionally Pointless History of Bay Area Punk from Dead Kennedys to Green Day. Boulware will discuss the book at A Great Good Place for Books (6120 La Salle Ave., Oakland) on Wednesday, Aug. 18, where he'll be joined by DwarvesfrontmanBlag Dahlia, as well as other guests to be announced. 7:30 p.m., free. 510-839-7315 or GreatGoodPlace.IndieBound.com
