The national Democratic Governor’s Association has decided that it needs to help the sleepy gubernatorial campaign of state Attorney General Jerry Brown. Republicans have immediately jumped on the news as being proof that Brown’s campaign has been lackluster so far and that he needs a bailout from a national Democratic organization, the CoCo Times reports. Some Democrats also have been quietly concerned that the former Oakland mayor hasn’t even officially announced his candidacy yet.
Although Brown has received some financial support from prominent GOP donors and raised more than $11 million last year, his warchest is expected to be dwarfed by the campaigns of wealthy Republican candidates Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner. The two GOP hopefuls have already pumped a total of $38 million into their coffers so far.
