Interrupting Lines

When: Thu., April 26 2018

Interrupting Lines is the latest exhibit at Part 2 Gallery, which opened last month to replace former downtown Oakland gallery Athen B. This group show features works from local artists David Ryan, Lena Gustafson, and Woodrow White, alongside some fresh faces from the East Coast showing in the Bay Area for the first time: Delphine Hennelly, Kyle Vu-Dunn, Nat Meade, and Sophie Larrimore. Hennelly’s work combines the interlacing quality of tapestry with that of the digitized image. Gustafson explores the female form through bright color and symbolism; the lines between the body and its surrounding environment often becoming blurred. Larrimore paints dogs, and Meade works with male archetypes. Rather than curate shows based on a central theme, Part 2 director and owner Brock Brake prefers to exhibit works each artist specifically wants to display. “One local artist that stopped by the show thanked me for showing painter’s painters,” Brake explained.
