Inside Job

Rated PG-13 108 min. 2010

So who got us into the Great Recession? Greedy banks, rapacious financiers, paid-off economists, and every regulation-destroying politician and government official since Ronald Reagan, says this outraged but cool-headed doc by Charles Ferguson (No End in Sight). The mountain of incriminating evidence is almost too dishearteningly high to climb, but director Ferguson, writers Chad Beck and Adam Bolt, and narrator Matt Damon lay it all out in a sickening timeline. The richest one percent of Americans did quite well, thank you, but the rest of us continue to pay the tab for the “global Ponzi scheme” that moved trillions of dollars into a very few hands – “private gains at public loss,” as one witness describes it. The film’s parting question: What can we believe in? Talking heads include French finance minister Christine Lagarde, IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn, and liberal bankroller George Soros.
