In Our Nature

When: June 9-July 15 2012

For many years now, the East Bay art scene has been enamored with the ceramic artwork of Crystal Morey. This month, the young artist again shows us why in her first solo show of the year, entitled In Our Nature, at The Compound Gallery (1167 65th St., Oakland). In Morey's delicate figurations we see a young master coming into her own: The faraway stare in the eyes of her subjects are certainly beautiful, yet belie the resonant metaphor of ecological connection that her work evokes. In her latest work, Morey expands her repertoire of human busts and explores animal forms on a large scale. Ecological in theme, her works merge the human and animal worlds, which represents, in her words, "a narrative of connectivity, showing the relationship that exists between humans, animals, and nature." Show opens June 9 and closes with a Sunday afternoon tea on July 15 at 4 p.m. 510-601-1702 or TheCompoundGallery.com
