10 weeks - no class 11/25. This course will be conducted live via video conferencing. Log-in information will be sent before the first class! The purpose of this course is to trace the development of musical traditions from early Rhythm & Blues through Soul music into the Funk era of the 1970s. We will discuss the history of these styles from their beginnings and to their evolution to the present time. Styles covered in the course will range from the 1930s through the 1970s. The class will cover artists, from “Sister” Rosetta Tharpe, Ray Charles, Curtis Mayfield, through George Clinton.
