Ian Edwards

When: Aug. 15-18 2012

UK-born, New York-raised, Jamaican comedian Ian Edwards is the kind of comic who loves to opine -- so much so, in fact, that he'll speak vociferously on seemingly mundane or trivial things. His thoughts on the perils of surfing: "Let me tell you something. If I play any game that causes me to lose an arm, the game wins." On mixed-race women: "It don't matter who their parents are. It could be the two ugliest people from each race. They will combine forces to form the finest daughter you've ever seen in your life." On Los Angeles: "This is the business-card capitol of the world." Edwards has an enviable talent for speaking the vernacular of any audience he's addressing, which makes all of his arguments more persuasive, even if he traffics in small observations. He's won over an international fanbase, and he'll surely kill at The Punchline Comedy Club (444 Battery St., San Francisco), where he's a featured comic Wednesday through Sunday, Aug. 15-18. $15-$21. or 415-397-7573
