Disappointing combo of teen romance and nuclear war disaster tale wastes the presence of actress Saoirse Ronan as Daisy, a spoiled American high-schooler who arrives for a stay with her country cousins in England just before London gets nuked and they’re all sent to military emergency camps. Ronan (Atonement, Hanna) holds up her end of the surprisingly meager narrative, but director Kevin Macdonald (Marley, The Eagle) and writers Jeremy Brock, Tony Grisoni, and Penelope Skinner -- adapting the young adult novel by Meg Rosoff -- dissipate most of the character energy in Daisy’s long trek back home. Costarring Tom Holland and George Mackay (101 min.).
