When: Sat., Aug. 18, 2 p.m. 2018
All of a sudden, it seems like everyone knows about Horn Barbecue. Bay Area pitmaster Matt Horn’s recent Oakland pop-ups have drawn hundreds of barbecue lovers who patiently wait in line as early as two hours before doors even open. In addition to a nod in the Express’ 2018 Best of the East Bay issue, Horn has recently been featured in Food & Wine, 7x7, and the East Bay Times. The starring attraction is Horn’s meltingly fatty brisket, which he cooks for up to 18 hours over oak in his 500-gallon smoker named Lucille. But the peppery links are also memorable, as are the generous sides such as eggy potato salad, smoky collard greens, and stewed beans. Get to the West Oakland venue early to enjoy some live music and secure your barbecue-filled future — the pop-up lasts until 5 p.m. or sell-out, and most likely the latter.
