Homestead Crab Feed

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving ranks up there — along with, you know, the day after Thanksgiving — as a day when even the most dedicated home cook would rather do anything than think about what he or she is going to make for dinner. Thankfully, Homestead (4029 Piedmont Ave., Oakland) has you covered. To celebrate the recent launch of the local Dungeness crab season, the restaurant is hosting a crab feed on Wednesday, November 26. The $45 price of admission (which might be tweaked slightly to account for the market price of crabs) will buy each guest a half-crab grilled in Homestead’s wood-fired oven, plus a host of side dishes: salad, roasted potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and house-baked sourdough bread, with pomegranate sorbet for dessert. Heartier eaters can pay a supplemental fee for a full crab, and kids pay half-price. It might not be the most waistline-friendly way to ease into Turkey Day, but who ever said the holidays were about restraint?
