One-joke “topical” melodrama sends an innocent, obedient, incurious young Brooklyn Orthodox Jew (Jesse Eisenberg) off to decadent Europe as an unwitting drug mule, schlepping ecstasy back to New York for a gang of Israeli smugglers – it’s “medicine,” and just do what you’re told, kid. See Sammy cringe at the hedonism. See Sammy discover making big money and schtupping girls. See his parents wail. See the insidious head smuggler Jackie (Danny A. Abeckaser) steal the movie. The m.o. is that in those pre-9/11 days, US customs officers wouldn’t frisk anyone in full Hasidic drag. Screenwriter Antonio Macia and director Kevin Asch work the material for all it’s worth, but aside from Eisenberg and Abeckaser’s perfs, it ain’t worth more than one or two chuckles (89 min.).
