High On Fire

When: Sat., Dec. 22, 9 p.m. 2012

Now that Matt Pike is out of rehab and on a diet of "granola and guitar" (according to a recent interview with The Village Voice), his band High on Fire is back in business and finally doing a proper tour in support of its sixth album, De VermisMysteriis. Released in April, it's a monster of a record, with an equally epic storyline to go with it (Jesus had a twin brother, who sacrificed himself and became a time traveler, or something). It's also a demonstration that, despite (or because of) the Oakland band's many struggles over the years, High on Fire remains one of the world's most potent metal bands. And with the continued popularity of his reunited pre-HoF outfit, Sleep, Pike appears to have plenty to celebrate -- with granola, of course. High on Fire plays Slim's (333 11th St., San Francisco) on Saturday, Dec. 22, with Goatwhore and Lo-Pan. 9 p.m., $21.
