Heyday Holiday Book Sale and Open House

When: Sat., Dec. 5, 12-4 p.m. 2009

Right now, somewhere on the outskirts of town, where the tree line meets the houses, a raccoon is digging up some muddied worms. Something compels him to abandon his task and make his way toward the lights and sounds of the city. Maybe he’s attracted by the smell of fresh garbage on the breeze, or maybe he’s just looking for a little excitement. In any case, this raccoon — like many others — is destined to become a permanent resident of the urban world. On Saturday, Dec. 5, Gary Bogue, author of The Raccoon Next Door and There’s an Opossum in My Backyard, will give a presentation on urban wildlife and share tips on how to get along with our wild neighbors at Berkeley’s Heyday Books (1633 University Ave.). 2 p.m., free.
