DJ & Dance

When: Wed., Sept. 21, 8 p.m. 2011

Children's choir, voice acting, a starring role in the Dutch version of High School Musical, first major star turn at the hands of someone called "The Prophet." One would be hard-pressed to say that the DJ Headhunterz (aka Willem Rebergen) doesn't have a vaunted pedigree. Just a few years into his career, Headhunterz already ranks 36 on DJ Mag's Top 100 list, owing both to his imaginative use of sound (his tracks defy conventional rules of groove or musicianship, but they're catchy nonetheless), and his prodigious output (dozens of releases to date). Rebergen currently helms his own subdivision of the Netherlands-based record label Scantraxx. He'll grace the EastBay this week alongside Darksiderz, Josh Gee, Starry Nightz, and Giuseppe Paolo, in a DJ-producer event co-sponsored by Hard Dance Nation and Kandi Love Production. The term "hard," in this case, could refer either to the artists' jagged, metallic sounds, or the type of reaction they elicit. Either way, it's apropos. At The New Parish (579 18th St., Oakland) on Wednesday, Sept. 21. 8 p.m., $15, $20.
