He Ain't Done Right by Nell and Curse You, Jack Dalton

When: Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. and Sundays, 6 p.m. Continues through Aug. 2 2008

Gary Wright directs two rollicking one-act melodramas by Wilbur Braun, He Ain't Done Right by Nell and Curse You, Jack Dalton. Scheming villains try to stand in the way of true love, but the strapping heroes and swooning ingénues somehow muddle through and ultimately prevail. Just like in real life! In one, foundling Nell Perkins' uncertain pedigree threatens to bring her shame and ensnare her into the amorous advances of a cad. In the other, moneybags Jack Dalton is prevented from marrying the maid by his class-conscious mother and a duplicitous opportunist who threatens to lock his love up in an asylum. Thrill and chill to their misadventures, hiss the heavies, and revel in the certainty that it'll all come out all right in the end at Chanticleers (3683 Quail Ave.), Castro Valley's fifty-year-old community theater. July 11 through August 2.Chanticleers.org or 510-733-5483.
