Inspired by a particularly fruitful 2005 session at California Brazil camp, and mostly recorded during a ten-week sojourn in Brazil that followed shortly thereafter, Harvey Wainapel'sAmigos Brasileirosis a travelogue of sorts. It's also a considered interpretation of Brazilian music by a San Francisco clarinetist who fell in love with the culture as an adult. Amigos features 44 instrumentalists (including master guitarists Marco Pereira, Carlos Oliveira, and Sérgi Santos, and wispy vocalist Claudia Villela), playing arrangements mostly crafted by Wainapel, who plays one of four different woodwinds on every song. Wainapel's liner notes include an exegesis of each musician's career, with added details about the process of recording each tune. He'll perform Sunday, August 9, alongside Carlos Oliveira and Capitalat Avanova, (417 Avon St., Oakland), a new performance space in Rockridge. 2 p.m., $15. For info, e-mail
