Harlem Globetrotters vs. Washington Generals

When: Sat., Jan. 15, 7:30 p.m. and Sun., Jan. 16, 2 p.m. 2011

When the Harlem Globetrotters announced this fall that they'd dramatically changed the game and implemented what their press release breathlessly called "basketball's first-ever four-point shot," it may have appeared odd or even slightly blasphemous to the purists. But it certainly wasn't surprising to any fan of the exhibition basketball team. The Globetrotters, after all, have built a reputation on making theater out of basketball, even if that means subverting the game's rules every now and again. The decades-old 'Trotters traffic in high-drama stunts and slapstick showmanship while still managing to shoot and score like NBA players, and as a result make up what must be the only professional sports team that's intentionally funny. See for yourself as they take on the Washington Generals at the Oracle Arena (7000 Coliseum Way, Oakland) on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. $16.25-$154.75.
