Hank 3

When: Sat., Sept. 24, 8:30 p.m. 2011

If you envision the Nashville music establishment as a sedate black-tie affair, then Hank 3 is the tattooed gate-crasher who drinks all the booze, pisses in the corner, starts a riot, and leaves the place in shambles. Blame genetics: He's descended from a string of troublemakers, all of them also named Hank Williams. After having what can be conservatively described as a tempestuous relationship with Curb Records, which included multiple lawsuits and a "Fuck Curb" campaign (borne out mostly on T-shirts),  he's now free of any major-label constraints. The outlaw has responded by banging out three DIY albums: the Cajun-inflected hellbilly double-CD Ghost to a Ghost/Guttertown (featuring fellow iconoclasts Tom Waits and Les Claypool), the sludge-rock Attention Deficit Domination, and 3 Bar Ranch Cattle Callin', a speed metal outing featuring the equally rapid-fire vocalizing of professional auctioneers. Hank 3 will be bringing his bastardized musical hybrids to the Regency Ballroom (1290 Sutter St., San Francisco) on Monday, Sept. 24. 8:30 p.m., $26.
