Guitarist and composer Gyan Riley shares several musical influences in common with his illustrious father, minimalist pioneer Terry Riley, and friends the Kronos Quartet. A seemingly insatiable desire to explore new musical ground, a love of jazz, and a very American tendency to assimilate the music of India and Spain into a compelling contemporary musical blend distinguish his latest CD, Melismantra. This weekend, the Gyan Riley Trio -- guitarist Riley, drummer and percussionist Scott Amendola, and violinist Timb Harris -- will lead a magical journey that wends its way from Spanish Flamenco to Indian ragas to folk and jazz. At Freight & Salvage (1111 Addison St., Berkeley) on Saturday, October 11. 8 p.m., $18.50. FreightandSalvage.com or 510-548-1761.
