Blues, Folk, & Country

Greg Brown

When: Fri., June 27, 9 p.m. 2008

Greg Brown grew up in a musical family and hit the road early. He ran the hoots at Gerde'sFolkCity in NY and wandered the country before returning to Iowa and starting his career as a singer-songwriter. He's probably the best male folk artist on the circuit, a favorite on Prairie Home Companion with 25 excellent albums to his name, most on the Red House label he started himself. He's got two Grammy nominations for best folk album and keeps getting better as he ages. His daughter Pieta Brown, who is following in her father's footsteps, released her forth album of original songs, Remember the Sun, last year. They play Friday, June 27 at the Great American Music Hall (859 O'Farrell St., San Francisco). 9 p.m., $25, $28.
