In “What’s on Tap,” ANG beer columnist Bill Brand reports a new craft brewery is slated to open near Jack London Square, one whose owner expects will catapult Oakland into fame. According to Brand, the soon-to-open Linden Street Brewery will brew a single beer, one whose name evokes more than a touch of crunchy: “Urban People’s Common Lager.” Owner Adam Lamoreaux’s work history includes a stint at Boonville’s Anderson Valley, but his Oakland company will have a particularly yeasty local resonance — he’ll be brewing in a ten-barrel plant he’s purchased from Bison Brewing in Berkeley. Despite his suds’ local pedigree, sounds like Lamoreaux is expecting wide acclaim from a brew “he hopes will make Oakland famous,” according to Brand. At the very least it might distract drinkers from the city’s current claim to renown — its hefty murder rate.
