Oakland Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker has been a holiday tradition for the past 46 years. The ensemble includes top East Bay talent: The Oakland Symphony, under the direction of Michael Morgan, performs Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, and Mt. Eden Women’s Ensemble will also join the orchestra for the Snow Scene. Also, more than 40 talented young dancers will perform alongside the trained professionals part of the cast. The production is in its eighth year under Graham Lustig, who joined as artistic director of Oakland Ballet in 2010. Besides the two shows at the Paramount Theatre, there will also be on-site educational performances held at several East Bay schools, in partnership with the Oakland Unified School District.
