The Trib reports that Oakland teachers and educators are a little less anxious, now that Governor Schwarzenegger has dropped his plan to suspend Proposition 98, which mandates a certain percentage of state funding to educations. And an Oakland district bean-counter crunched the governor’s budget numbers and estimated that the new deficit could be $4 million less than projected. Still, we’re talking about $19 million in the red. Class size will go up, staff will go down, and we’re just at the start of the budget cycle.
