.Gov Vetoes Oversight of Diploma Mills

The Teutonic Terror continues his veto binge up in Sacramento, this time killing a bill that would have regulated for-profit and vocational colleges in California. Currently, no government agency exists to make sure hucksters don’t set up colleges that aggressively court prospective students with heavy advertising, let anyone in, charge tens of thousands of dollars in tuition, and hand them a worthless degree after a year or two. According to the Contra Costa Times, Schwarzenegger declared that the bill failed to strike a balance between protecting students and being fair to colleges. This gives us a perfect opportunity to shamelessly plug a story by our very own lovely wife Eliza Strickland, who conducted a remarkable investigation into the poster child for diploma mills, San Francisco’s California Culinary Academy.
