Golden Gate Handicap Challenge

When: Dec. 12-14, 12:45 p.m. 2008

Even the racehorses get a holiday break. The thoroughbreds at Golden Gate Fields (1100 Eastshore Highway, Berkeley) will finish up their 2008 season next week, but the chance to win more than a few bets takes place this weekend. The Handicapping Contest starts Friday, Dec. 12 and rewards one lucky gambler each day through Sunday with an all-expense-paid trip to Las Vegas and a seat at the National Handicappers Challenge. Patrons get a card with the price of admission and if they win the most fictional dollars with a mythical $20 bet, they'll go on a real airplane and try their luck against the bettors from around the nation by the time the horses return to Golden Gate. 12:45 p.m., $4.
