Go Expo Day

When: Sun., May 2, 1-4 p.m. 2010

Invented 4,000 years ago in China, Go remains internationally popular to this day. It's a fun, competitive board game that pays dividends, mostly because it exercises so many muscles in the brain. To be successful at Go is to have a knack for strategizing and memorizing plays. Some say it's even harder and more elegant than chess. The Bay Area has its own vibrant Go scene, with groups dispersed throughout Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Cupertino. They'll all convene this Sunday, May 2, at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center (388 Ninth St., Oakland), for an all-day Go Expo hosted by the Bay Area Go Association. The event kicks off with a tournament open to players of all levels, and features introductory workshops throughout the afternoon. 9:15 a.m.-5 p.m., $5-$15. BayAreaGo.org
